IGF-1 LR3 is not the same thing as IGF-1. People mix this up. LR3 is a modified version 83 amino acids long, versus 70 in native IGF-1. Those extra 13 amino acids sit at the N-terminus. And at position 3, arginine goes in where glutamic acid normally sits. Two changes. That's it. But those two changes matter a lot in lab work.

Why? Because native IGF-1 gets grabbed by binding proteins IGFBPs. They limit how long it stays active. LR3 binds to those proteins much less. So in vitro, it stays active longer. That's the whole point of using LR3 over native IGF-1 in certain experiments. Longer observation window. Less interference from binding proteins.

The full scientific name is Long Arginine 3-Insulin-like Growth Factor-1. You'll also see it written as LR3-IGF-1.
